Candidates are encouraged to read the Candidate Information Guide to understand what is required to be an elected official for the City of Yorkton. It provides an overview of the election process in Yorkton and summarizes the steps required to run as a candidate.

Information about running for School Board trustee can be found by visiting the Saskatchewan School Boards Association, or by visiting the Good Sirit School Division or Christ the Teacher Catholic School Division websites. 

What to expect once elected

 

Candidate nominations

The nomination period will open before Election Day. Nomination papers along with all accompanying documents will be accepted only at the Election Office (37 Third Avenue North) from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday, and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Nomination Day.  Candidate nomination packages are available here.

 

  • Only one person can be nominated for election on each nomination paper.
  • A voter may sign the nomination papers of more than one person.
  • Candidates can not nominate themselves.
  • Elections Yorkton staff are not eligible to witness the nomination statement.

Please ensure your nomination papers are complete and contain all the required documents. Double check that:

  • the nominee's acceptance statement is signed by the nominee
  • the nominee's acceptance statement is witnessed by two people
  • you have completed the Public Disclosure Statement for Candidates
  • you have completed the Results of the Criminal Record Check form and attached your Criminal Record Check (dated within 60 days of the date that nomination papers are submitted)
  • you have completed the Candidate Profile Form and included your photo and signed candidate profile statement
  • you have a copy of the Disclosure of Election Campaign Expenses and Contributions to track expenses.
